Introduction:

A problem has been discovered when using a Connect Tech multi-port serial adapter and an ASUS motherboard. The asus P2L97 AGP Mother board uses I/O addresses 290H – 297H for power monitoring, which potentially falls within a popular DFlex I/O addressing range. A customer has reported this, and as we have the identical motherboard in the lab, Connect Tech Customer Support was able to reproduce this problem.

The problem manifests itself when the machine is booting and the bios displays an “Inappropriate voltages” warning message.

Solutions:

  1. Disable the involved power management utility in the bios.
  2. Relocate the DFlex (or other conflicting CTI card) to a non conflicting I/O address.
