kdb260: NT960 Causes Respawning on Linux

Title: NT960 Causes Respawning on Linux

Problem:

Plugging an NT960 into a Linux 2.2.x system causes respawning to occur on boot up; terminals don’t appear, login is impossible.

Cause:

There is a resource conflict between the card and some other device, most likely an Ethernet card.

Solution:

Boot the system without the card in. Take a look at /proc/interrupts to determine a free interrupt to use; double check your NT960 card. Take a look at /proc/ioports to determine a free I/O port to use; double check your NT960 card.

There’s no easy way to check if there’s a shared memory conflict; just try different values until something works. Remember to check the bios for segments that are already in use.
