Responsibilities:

The Selective Soldering Technician will primarily be responsible for the set up, programming, operation, and maintenance of a Selective Soldering machine.  These duties include:

  • Create product specific soldering programs to apply solder to precise locations on printed circuit boards.
  • Operation of the selective soldering equipment on a daily basis.  This includes product preparation (stuffing/placing), machine loading/unloading, inspection with microscope, and touch-up with hand soldering equipment
  • Monitor soldering process to ensure quality standards are met, by performing x-ray inspection to verify barrel fill and visually inspect solder joints to meet IPC-A-610 and make adjustments as needed.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and process problems, escalate issues as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Ensure machine, tools, and equipment are maintained in good working condition according to scheduled maintenance.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient throughput and quality results

Education and Experience:

  • Engineering Technician/Technologist college diploma and 2-4 years related experience
  • Experience working with Wave or Selective Soldering equipment
  • Experience with X-ray inspection of electronics, specifically relating to barrel fill according to the IPC-A-610 standard
  • Strong soldering skills where training in IPC-7711/21 is an asset
  • Experience with electronics inspection to IPC-A-610 standards
  • Training and Experience in ESD Procedures

Skills:

  • Good manual dexterity demonstrating fine motor skills for working with small components (hand-eye coordination)
  • Strong English language comprehension is a must
  • Work from written/verbal instructions, technical manuals, engineering specifications and schematics
  • Possess good interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of electronics assembly
